Crochet Granny Star {with a free pattern}

crochet granny star

Hi lovelies 🙂

I love this time of year, with all the decorations and sparkly lights! Our homes feel cozier and we all waiting for the pj days and comforting food, together with our families. At least that’s what Christmas is for me; spending more time with my family and enjoying my home!

This week tutorial is on how to make a Crochet Granny Star {with a free pattern}! It is quite simple to do and it takes almost zero time. If you love granny squares, like I do, then this is follows a similar pattern; only in a star shape!

To make a crochet granny star follow the pattern below!

  • I used hook size 3.5mm but if you want to make a bigger star then use a bigger hook
  • yarn (for my stars I used cotton but acrylic is as good)
  • yarn needle
  • scissors

Do a magic circle (or you could chain 4 and do a slip stitch at the first chain to create a ring)

Round 1: ch3, 2 dc, ch2 , 3dc, ch 2, *Repeat until you have 5 bundles of 3dc around.

Round 2:  sc in each of the next 3 stitches(until you get to the next big gap) / In the big gap: ch3, 2dc, ch 2, 3dc, ch1 /in the next gap: 3dc, ch2, 3dc / …*Repeat / join with a slip stitch on the top stitch

**at this stage your star should look like a pentagon

Round 3: sc in the next two stitches and one more in the big space between two 3dc-bundles. Then, ch3 in the same space, 2dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1…and sc in the next big space, ch1 and then in the next big space…3dc, ch2, 3dc **Repeat all around / join with a slip stitch

I made a few crochet granny stars for my Christmas tree but I also had something else in mind. Now that our baby is on its way, I am thinking how to decorate the baby’s sleeping area (well, really the space next to my bed) and make it more cozy.

So, I made a few different-colored crochet granny stars and made a garland. It is very easy to do. Just make a chain and  sc to catch each star on the chain. Make sure though, to count the chain stitches so they can be equally apart.

What do you think?

Enjoy your week and make people smile 🙂
