Paper Yarn Wreath

paper yarn wreath

Hey everyone!

Today I am sharing a Paper Yarn Wreath I made for a friend!

Have you ever used paper yarn? Did you actually tried to crochet something with it? Well, my mum  bought me this paper yarn long time ago and I never did anything with it. So, instead of using normal yarn, I decided to try this one.

How to make a Paper Yarn Wreath

First, I wrapped around the polysterene wreath some paper yarn and tied it well at the back. I liked the way it holds nicely and tightly. Then, I crochet a flower with the paper yarn…That was really hard!! I don’t about other people but I found it really difficult to crochet with paper. Every time the hook will go through the loop, I will so scaried that it will rip apart. It was also challenging to get a sense of the shape it will take and calculate the number of chains and loops.

Nevertheless, I managed to make a pretty (I think!) flower! In the middle of it, I cut strips of the paper yarn and glued it with a hot glue gun.

Since my hand was really sore from the paper yarn, I turned to my lovely, soft cotton yarn and made a small flower and a heart! Wow! What a difference 🙂 I attached these on the wreath with glue, too!

Then, I found some pretty, matching ribbons and the wreath was completed!

If you ask me, if I am going to try to crochet with paper yarn again, I will definitely say ‘no’. But, paper yarn can be used on many other projects and I am going to be doing my research for more ideas!

Overall, the result is lovely…don’t you think? I love this color combination and the fact that it is not overloaded. Simplicity is key 🙂

I would love to hear from you, if you ever used paper yarn, your experience and any project ideas!

Till next time 😉

Your wreath is beautiful. To give you some information…… “paper Yarn” is also known as RAFFIA. It is made by many different companies.
Premier makes a very nice one. https://www.premieryarns.com/products/praffiasp?variant=24360061190 Universal Yarn makes another http://blog.universalyarn.com/tag/yashi/
These both work well for handbags and hats and home decor. As yours is older, and you didn’t mention brand, it’s hard to assess what you are working with, but I’m confident you would fine these easier to work with. Some of the “Natural” raffia would be very hard to crochet.
When searching for projects, also try searching “paper twist” for projects as some of these may be more suitable.
    Happy Hooking
