The summer is really close and every girl needs a new accessory, so today I am sharing a Crochet Granny Square Bag for my daughter!
You all know by now my love for granny squares, so this is a simple bag made from two solid granny squares. If you are not sure how to crochet solid granny squares, then check out this post and go through the basics 🙂
This bag consists from three parts. Two solid granny squares and a long strip. I have also added fabric lining to make it more sturdy.
How to make it
First, crochet two solid granny squares. The size depends on how big you want the bag to be. I made this one 18cm x 18cm big. If you would like to make this bag bigger, just increase the size of te granny square.
Next, crochet the top part of one granny square and create a button-hole, as well. Again, this part is up to you. it’s important not to forget to make a button-hole 🙂
When this is done, then it is time to make the long strip. Crochet 4 chains of dc, in order to make it wide enough. The strip’s length I made is 1.5meters and that depends on how tall is the person that is going to use it.
When you are done with that, you can assemble the parts. Use pins and hold the strip around the granny squares to form the bag. Make sure that it is not too tight or too loose.
It is time to add your preferred button and then find some pretty fabric to add the lining!!
For bags, I like to use fabric for curtains, because it is thicker and the bag can hold its shape better 🙂
All you have to do, is to cut to squares of the fabric and leave at least 5-7 cm from each side. So, in mine the granny squares were 18cm x 18cm, and I cut the fabric 25 cm x 25cm. Stitch the 3 sides together, and then use pins to hold the fabric on the inside of the bag. Hand-stitch carefully and make sure it is uniform.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
